v1.1 release + some rambling
I don’t think anyone will read this, but here we go, here’s a changelog coming at ya:
Mitch v1.1.1
- Added dark theme. It can adjust to your Android system theme or to the itch.io website theme. This may or may not require Android 10.
- Allow choosing the starting page for the built-in browser. Instead of “Top Android games” you might want to choose “My feed”, “My library”, “itch.io main page” and others.
- The app now shows a splash screen while it’s loading.
- Big stability improvements and minor bug fixes.
Mitch v1.1.0
- GitLab build now uses the proper GitLab Releases API for update checking. This should improve security and stability going forward.
Expect to see a few more updates in the coming days.
This reminds me: happy holidays, everybody! I happen to live in a very exotic land which celebrates Christmas not in December, but in January. This means it’s perfectly fine for me to spend December 25th doing programming.
Now comes the second half of this post, the sad half:
If you’re one of the 2-3 people that actively use Mitch, you may have noticed that I haven’t updated this app for months. Truth be told, I’m not super-enthusiastic about this project. The “target audience” for it is a niche within a niche. Plus the launch was a bit of a disaster (remember when Mitch used to cost 2 dollars?), though I’ll talk about that some other time.
Call me egotistical, but it’s hard to care about Mitch when nobody else cares. Android development can be fun and that’s its own reward, but on the other hand, development is very slow due to Android Studio being too big for my poor little laptop to handle. It literally took me ~10 hours to implement the dark theme feature - most of it was just spent waiting for the app to compile, or just sitting there when Android Studio freezes due to lack of RAM.
I’m still waiting for F-Droid to start distributing Mitch. For those of you who don’t know, F-Droid is another alternative to the Google Play Store, which focuses on privacy and security. I won’t go into detail about why Google is bad and evil and dystopian, but just know that f-droid.org is a seriously cool project.

Hi, thanks for your ongoing support for this app.
I'm using it for a couple of months now and it works nice! It deserves to get some more recognition here :)
Let's hope it gets some more attention when it's on F-Droid I hope it gets merged soon, I had to wait like 2 months before my app got published there. From what I noticed the team is kinda understaffed.
Anyways don't force yourself to do stuff you don't want to do. :)
Thank you for the kind words, I think I might’ve been a bit negative just because I’ve abandoned this project for too long. Now I’m back in the groove, so to speak.
There’s been a little bit of progress on F-Droid but from what I can tell, those guys are super paranoid about security and maybe they just don’t trust itch.io, or my particular client. They want to review my code but nobody has the time to do that.
I did read it =D
And I've been testing your app for a few weeks now, and somehow it seems far more stable and faster than when using Itchio on a normal browser (including Firefox)
Thanks for your hard work, and if I knew more people that use Itchio or its apps through mobile devices, I'd surely recommend your app
